Synthesis

Oceans are the largest component on planet Earth. Its presence is fundamental to life because it keeps the climate stable and thus generates well-being to society. The first global ocean assessment recognized growing degradation of the oceans; however, most people are unaware of the benefits offered by the oceans, or how actions from large cities affect ocean health whose impacts affect societal well-being and marine diversity survival.

This lack of knowledge is a concern to the scientific community, as is its omission in the national educational curriculum. This proposal proposes to develop materials for teachers of higher and higher middle educational level in Mexico and the creation of a portal of ocean culture, create teaching materials supported by students to inspire participating academic staff and students who in the future receive knowledge result of the ocean research in their education. The proposal seeks to improve the scientific and technological knowledge base of teaching at the ENP, CCH and School of Sciences of the upper and upper middle educational level of UNAM and in this way help transforming how we communicate the results of ocean scientific research to students and inspire and influence a stronger knowledge transfer.
